New Journey of Yaji and Kita is a parody manga of "Tōkaidōchū Hizakurige" written by Hasegawa Machiko, the creator of Sazae-san. This is the first book to compile the entire series, originally serialized in "Weekly Asahi" in the 1940s, all the way to the final chapter.

This title marks Machiko's first attempt at a period piece, a work beloved of kabuki and period dramas. It depicts the unusual journey of the beloved mismatched duo Yaji and Kita from Nihonbashi in Edo to Ise. Sazae-san even makes an appearance along the way.
It was hugely popular when it was serialized in "Weekly Asahi" and was even made into a film in 1952.
It has been published in book form several times, but the story ends abruptly around Kuwana-juku (Mie Prefecture), leaving the final seven chapters unpublished. Four of the seven stories were later redrawn and included in another book (Apron Obaa-san Volume 5), but the remaining three chapters have never been published anywhere.
This time, three stories not previously published in a book, including the final story, will be included for the first time.

Hasegawa Machiko, who loved Kabuki and period dramas, first tried her hand at serializing a topknot manga with "Shin Yajikita Douchuuki/New Journey of Yaji and Kita".
It is an adaptation of "Tokai Dochu Hizakurige" by Jippensha Ikku, written in the Edo period, and depicts the amusing journey of Yaji-san and Kita-san from Edo to Ise.

While incorporating episodes reminiscent of the original work, Machiko's unique humorous and fun journey unfolds, and the Sazae-san family also appears along the way.
