Machiko Hasegawa's hobby was traveling, and she visited all kinds of places in between drawing manga. When international travel for tourism purposes was liberalized in April 1964, she immediately set off overseas in July of the same year. From then until her later years, Machiko continued to visit all kinds of places, both domestically and internationally. She traveled overseas a total of 20 times. Her inquisitive nature meant that the scenery she saw in each country was stimulating and exciting. These experiences were not just a hobby; they were also incorporated into her own work.

"Sazae-san Travel Adventures" is a manga depicting the events she experienced on her travels. It was serialized in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper for 24 issues from March to August 1987. "Sazae-san Travel Adventures" was published approximately nine years after her previous serialized manga, "Sazae-san Confessions,"(ァアエさんうけあけ話). This was the final serialized manga for Hasegawa Machiko.

After the series ended, a book titled "Sazae-san Travel Adventures" was published by her publishing company, Shimaisha Publishing Company, containing a total of 25 stories, including the 24 originally published in newspapers and one additional story. It was also adapted into a television drama. Since its initial newspaper serialization, the series has been beloved for many years.
