After being reincarnated into the world of the popular RPG Albater, a former gamer discovers that he hasn't become the protagonist or one of the game's legendary heroes. Instead, he's now Eisuke, a minor supporting character whose class is Alchemist. Being a background character doesn't bother Eisuke in the slightest. Armed with extensive knowledge of the game, he plans to take full advantage of his alchemy skills, make a fortune, and live a successful life far away from the dangers awaiting the story's main cast.

But staying in the background proves easier said than done. Before long, Eisuke crosses paths with Ain, the game's supposed protagonist, only to discover that the “hero” is nowhere near as capable as he should be. Worse, if Ain dies, the entire world could be doomed. Eisuke reluctantly begins using his knowledge and abilities to support him, gradually earning far more attention than any minor character is supposed to receive. As he forms a party with the game's heroes and heroines, Eisuke's supposedly humble support role becomes increasingly indispensable. He may have been reincarnated as a mere side character, but before he knows it, his talents as an alchemist are putting him on the path toward becoming a legend in his own right.
