Brienne is deprived of her title by her cousin and is in danger of being sold off to an ugly middle-aged aristocrat. So she dressed as a man and ran away, but the difficulty of finding a job was serious. The only good-paying job she found was a butler of the notoriously vicious Duke of Connate!
"The weekly salary is 2 gold!"
It was too much pay to refuse. So Brienne tried to save money and leave as soon as possible without being noticed by the Duke of Connate, but for some reason she ended up smitten by the duke.
