A manga adaptation of a collection of SAO side stories that were originally released as limited edition Blu-Ray/DVD bonuses for the first and second seasons of the Sword Art Online anime, as well as a TV special called the Extra Edition.

The Material Edition: Remix is an official collection of Material Edition and Character Edition short stories by the author of the Sword Art Online light novel, Kawahara Reki. The collection was originally released at the Sword Art Online 10 year anniversary technology demonstration event named Ex-Chronicle, held on August 4-18, 2019. The manga Material Editions were redrawn by the Phantom Bullet and Project Alicization manga artist Yamada Koutarou for this collection.

Having won a photon sword in a mini game, Yui decided that it would be the perfect gift for Kirito. Hollow Realization takes place in Sword Art: Origin, a restoration of Aincrad titled Ainground, with intentions of research and development in the year 2026, three years after the original Sword Art Online event. However, unlike in Sword Art Online, Ainground is one large floor, instead of multiple, while the castle itself was renamed to Aincrad, where several monsters can be battled.The main character of the game is a 14-year old AI, known as Premiere, that travels with Kirito. Although she is part of the game's initial release, a later patch would tweak her "vocabulary and personality" in-game to a "specific character", based on keywords in Twitter tweets as part of a promotional campaign featuring the character. When Kirito took on a random quest on the 76th floor to kill time, he didn't expect to be transported to a bedroom and find himself wearing pyjamas. To his surprise, the One Thousand and One Nights quest summons various girls that he is acquainted with, all of whom are tricked into thinking that they have to share a bed with Kirito to complete the quest. The true goal of the quest, however, is for Kirito to survive till morning without getting into bed with them. If he fails, there will be a penalty for the girls…

Project Alicization, a top-secret government project run by Rath, a company affiliated with the Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF), was started to create the first highly adaptive, «Bottom-up AI». By using a 4th generation FullDive machine, called the Soul Translator (STL), Rath succeeded in copying the Fluctlights (souls) of twelve newborn babies, creating a «Soul Archetype», a non-developed Artificial Fluctlight that could be copied to create new Artificial Fluctlights, which would then need to be nurtured to mature into an individual. For this reason, a virtual world, codenamed «Underworld», was created using the free kernel version of the Cardinal System, The Seed, and then transferred into the STL mainframe via the Mnemonic Visuals feature of the STL. Underworld is set in a past era, when science and philosophy were just being discovered, but instead of recreating a past era, limited terrain and certain customs were introduced so that the inhabitants of the world would form their own society.

While Asuna, Leafa, Silica and Lisbeth were doing their homework in Kirito and Asuna's Log House on the 22nd Floor of New Aincrad, Lisbeth informed Asuna of a player known as Absolute Sword who was challenging players on the 24th Floor, while offering an 11-hit Original Sword Skill as a reward. Asuna was told that the mysterious player had actually converted from a different game and that over thirty players who had attempted to challenge the player, including Leafa and even Kirito, were defeated. Hearing that Kirito had said something to the player before being defeated and not sharing what he had said with the others and thinking that the mysterious player had come for a reason, Asuna decided to challenge the player as well. To her surprise, the player was actually a girl, named Yuuki.

The setting for the third story arc. It is a virtual game world with a main focus on guns, although melee weapons like lightsabers and knives also exist. From all the games it is the most competitive one as the money earned there can be exchanged for currency used in the real world, drawing high-tier professional players to make a living from it.

On December 28, 2025; Kirigaya Suguha (Leafa) showed her cousin, Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito), a news article that the Holy Sword Excalibur in ALfheim Online (ALO) had been found. Excalibur was the rarest and most powerful sword in ALO, but, although Kazuto had Suguha had found the sword nearly a year ago, they were not able to break through the guardians of the dungeon that the sword was held in, until they ended up temporarily forgetting about the sword due to more important matters. However, Kazuto was then told that the weapon had only been discovered so far, but not yet acquired. Thus Kazuto called Asuna, Lisbeth, Silica, Klein and Sinon to form a full party and attempt to clear the dungeon again.

Please be advised that the side stories in this series have some changes from the original Light Novel versions of the Sword Art Online main story. This series is a retelling of the SAO Aincrad Arc starting from a day or two before the clearing of the First Floor Boss, and continuing onwards. The first chapter was included in the Anime as Episode 2.

Follows the heroines from the Aincrad arc through their various adventures in the real world at the SAO Survivor School and in the virtual world of ALfheim Online.
