Written and published shortly after his 85th birthday, Mizuki Shigeru finally lets the outside world in as he shares his entire life story in the form of this wonderful manga autobiography. The book is split into 4 parts with each arc focusing on each part of his life. Part 1 deals with his childhood and his upbringing in the coastal town of Sakaiminato in Tottori prefecture. Part 2 deals with his sudden conscription at the age of 20 into the Japanese Army to assist in the imperial war effort in Asia. His enlistment sees Mizuki get assigned to the eastern Papa New Guinean village of Rabaul. Part 3 details Mizuki's return to his homeland (minus his left arm which he lost in an explosion) where he is betrothed to a local Japanese girl, and desperately tries to eke out a living by drawing and selling comic books. Part 4, the final arc, shows a current day Mizuki and how his series of comics (notably Gegege no Kitaro) become hugely successful and enable him and his family to leave in comfort. The final part also deals with Mizuki becoming a father and subsequent grandfather. The final arc actually finishes at present day (at the time of publication, that is) with even a mention of the vandalization incident that took place around the same time along the Mizuki Shigeru road where a bronze statue of Gegege no Kitaro was stolen and other of statues were vandalized.

A timid young boy named Tadashi moves to a small town after the divorce of his parents. At a local festival, he is picked to be that year's "Kirin Rider," a protector of all things good. He soon discovers that his new title is quite literal, as a nefarious spirit named Kato appears. Originally a human who became a demon from the strength of his hatred for humans, Kato desires vengeance against their actions on the Youkai. To carry out his revenge, Kato allies himself with a Youkai named Hanako while he summons a fiery spirit called Yomotsumono, composed of the resentment of the many things which mankind has discarded. By capturing other Yokai and burning them in the flames of Yomotsumono, he is able conjure up a manifestion of Yomotsumono known as "Nanjara-Monjara", a fearsome Yokai covered in tentacles that can fly. Tadashi is mankind's last hope as he begins his quest to claim the "Holy sword" from it's protector, the Great Tengu before joining forces with all the Yokai that reside along the Mizuki Road to defeat the evil Kato once and for all. Though 220 pages in length, Yokai Daisenso reads like an epic One Shot in as much as there are no chapters. It reads straight through from start to finish without any intervals.

The first English translation of Mizuki's best-loved work NonNonBa is the definitive work by acclaimed Gekiga-ka Shigeru Mizuki, a poetic memoir detailing his interest in yokai (spirit monsters). Mizuki's childhood experiences with yokai influenced the course of his life and oeuvre; he is now known as the forefather of yokai manga. His spring 2011 book, Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths, was featured on PRI's The World, where Marco Werman scored a coveted interview with one of the most famous visual artists working in Japan today. Within the pages of NonNonBa, Mizuki explores the legacy left him by his childhood explorations of the spirit world, explorations encouraged by his grandmother, a grumpy old woman named NonNonBa. NonNonBa is a touching work about childhood and growing up, as well as a fascinating portrayal of Japan in a moment of transition. NonNonBa was the first manga to win the Angoulême Prize for Best Album. Much like its namesake, NonNonBa is at once funny and nostalgic, grounded in a sociohistorical context and floating in the world of the supernatural.

From Drawn & Quarterly:Showa: A History of Japan is a work of Shigeru Mizuki's meticulously researched historical portrait of twentieth-century Japan. This series deals with the period leading up to World War II, a time of high unemployment and other economic hardships caused by the Great Depression. Mizuki's photo-realist style effortlessly brings to life the Japan of the 1920s and 1930s, depicting bustling city streets and abandoned graveyards with equal ease. When the Showa era began, Mizuki himself was just a few years old, so his earliest memories coincide with the earliest events of the time. With his trusty narrator Rat Man, Mizuki brings history into the realm of the personal, making it palatable, and indeed compelling, for young audiences as well as more mature readers. As he describes the militarization that leads up to World War II, Mizuki's stance toward war is thoughtful and often downright critical―his portrayal of the Nanjing Massacre clearly paints the incident as an atrocity. Mizuki's Showa is a beautifully told history that tracks how technological developments and the country's shifting economic stability had a role in shaping Japan's foreign policy in the early twentieth century.Official EnglishWon the 13th Kodansha Manga Award for Seinen/General in 1989

It is said that once every 10,000 years, a child capable of reading and understanding the ancient Jewish scriptures for Demon resurrection, will be born into the world. The last person to come close to achieving such a feat was the great Professor Faust who, through sheer will-power alone has managed to live for 300 years in anticipation of the advent of the next "chosen one" so that he can impart his knowledge directly before he can die. That child is Shingo Yamada, A.K.A: Akuma-kun. Shingo is a boy genius living in Japan who, with the help of his close friends, is attempting to solve the riddle of Demon resurrection so that he can use the tremendous power of the Demons to unite the world as one nation where everyone can live as equals and in total harmony with each other. Shingo's efforts are effectively fruitless until he encounters Professor Faust. Upon receiving Faust's assistance, he is able to resurrect a demon called Mephisto and is able to control him by using the magical Solomon flute that was entrusted to him by Faust before he died. Before long however, Shingo finds himself a target for powerful wizards that are hell-bent on procuring the powerful Solomon's flute for their own evil intents. Thus begins the many trials of Akuma-kun and Mephisto as they work together to protect the world from some of the most frightening demons the world has ever seen! Written 2 years after the end of the Original Akuma-kun rental comic book, Shigeru Mizuki revisits his characters and changes the entire theme of the story. In this version, Akuma-kun's name has been changed from Ichiro Matsushita to Shingo Yamada in order to tie-in with the black and white television drama that aired on Japanese T.V at the same time as publication. In this version, Akuma-kun is a kindhearted boy that seeks to defeat evil demons and Yokai with the help of his reluctant friend, Mephisto, for the better good of society.

One day, when Sanpei takes a nap whilst floating down the river on a makeshift raft, he is mistaken for a Kappa and gets pulled underwater by a group of 'fellow' Kappa that are worried about him being spotted by humans, before whisking Sanpei away to the underwater Kingdom of the Kappa. Upon arrival, Sanpei is soon discovered to actually be a human and is immediately is sentenced to execution. Realizing the situation he's in, Sanpei somehow manages to convince the Kappa elders that Human civilization is much more advanced and that they could learn a great deal from the humans should they allow him to live. Unable to trust Sanpei completely, the Kappa Elder removes Sanpei's bellybutton (as this is where they believe his soul to be located) as a guarantee before sending him back to the Human world, escorted by a young Kappa "exchange student" that strikes a frightening resemblance to Sanpei. Thus begins Sanpei's adventures as he seeks to educate the Kappa, foil a persistent Death god, learn about his parents whereabouts, tackle angry Tanuki's, and lastly, win back his bellybutton!

When Ken's father successfully constructs a fully automated robot, Ken decides to take it for a spin with his pet cat, Mike. In a totally nonsensical chain of events, the robot crash lands on the mysterious "Pologon Island" where Ken and Mike discover a strange rock that can float on water and swerve in mid-air. After arriving home, Ken shows the stone to his father who immediately recognizes it to be nothing more than bird poop. Soon after, Ken and his cat find themselves accosted by a group of hostile Kappa before having their bellybuttons stolen. The only way to recover their stolen navels is by beating the cunning Kappa in a game of baseball! Ken soon rounds up a ridiculous bunch of players including a baby and a wooden doll and, with the help of his magical bird poop, sets about reclaiming his stolen bellybutton! Written just 6 months into Shigeru Mizuki's career as a Manga artist, this is a highly unusual and much sought after comedy gem from the 1950's rental comic book era.
