Peleliu - Rakuen no Guernica follows the daily lives of Japanese soldiers taking part in the Battle of Peleliu during World War II: a high-casualty, months-long campaign. The main character, Tamaru, dreams of returning home to become a mangaka, and sees their island outpost as a wild paradise that can one day be used as a setting for one of his stories. Most of his comrades, however, are prepared for the more realistic scenario – that they will not be leaving Peleliu alive.

The main character, Kazuyoshi Takeda, is 35 years old and is currently living as an assistant while having a dream of becoming a manga artist. Supported by the dream of being a cartoonist and the bond with his wife, the main character confronts testicular cancer ... Tama-chan is an affectionate way to say "testicle". But despite the name seems a gag, the story is sad, exciting and motivational, about the disease that attacked the author himself and made him lose his testicle. Much more than a history of disease, it is a story about overcoming.
