To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Louvre's comic collection, a series of international exhibitions has been scheduled. The Taipei Montue Museum, followed by the Tainan Cultural Center, inaugurated the Taiwanese part of this major retrospective by exhibiting more than two hundred original plates, preparatory drawings and video installations. Then, between August 2016 and September 2017, the exhibition follows a traveling tour through Japan, starting with the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo. At each stage of the exhibition, Taiwanese and then Japanese artists were invited to participate in this project. It is their work that we reproduce here. Their personal looks, their original cultures and their singular expressions send back new images of the Louvre,

Giacomo Foscari grew up in Venice in the 1930s and '40s, witnessing the rise and fall of Fascism in Italy. From a wealthy and well-educated family, as a child he loved history and mythology, eventually obtaining a degree in that field and a teaching position in Japan in the 1960s. Starting in 1993 with his return to Japan after a long absence, the story weaves seamlessly over Giacomo's mid-twentieth century memories of life in Italy and Japan. As he draws parallels between Ancient Rome and traditional Shinto-influenced Japan, people and places all seem connected in a certain way, with new acquaintances reminding him of those long lost, reopening doors to episodes of his own past.

When Roman architect Lucius is criticized for his "outdated" thermae designs, he retreats to the local bath to collect his thoughts. All Lucius wants is to recapture the Rome of earlier days, when one could enjoy a relaxing bath without the pressure of merchants and roughhousing patrons. Slipping deeper into the warm water, Lucius is suddenly caught in the suction and dragged through the drainage at the bottom of the bath! He emerges coughing and sputtering amid a group of strange-looking foreigners with the most peculiar bathhouse customs…over 1,500 years in the future in modern-day Japan! His contemporaries wanted him to modernize, and so, borrowing the customs of these mysterious bath-loving people, Lucius opens what quickly becomes the most popular new bathhouse in Rome-Thermae Romae!Won the 3rd Manga TaishoWon the Short Story Award at the 14th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2010

Steve Jobs
Historical

Adaptation
At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values. Note: Based on the authorized Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson.
