(from ebookjapan): Moka, Tochigi Prefecture, 1931. When Yujiro Watanabe, founder of the Japan Kenpo Club, visited Moka for a boxing match, a young boy jumped in to challenge Hanai, a professional boxer, and almost won. He was Tsuneo Horiguchi, captain of the Moka Junior High School Judo Club. Horiguchi went on to attend Waseda University, where he was welcomed into the Japan Kenpo Club by Watanabe, who saw in him a great talent. Horiguchi, who was devoted to a unique style that disregarded defense and just kept on hitting, participated in the Japan-France Kenpo tournament for the Japanese selection. His fighting style earned him the nickname "Piston". After advancing to the finals, Horiguchi faced his senpai, Kaneo Nakamura, who was known as a "knockout artist," and won. And so to the French-Japanese duel! This is the first work by Kajiwara Ikki and his last work. Behold the origin of Kajiwara's world! What the last sentence refers to is the manga being an adaptation of a short story (not a manga) that Kajiwara wrote in 1959, entitled Make Him Strike, and I Shoot (打たせて撃つ, Utasete Utsu), serving as his debut work. It is also his last as the manga was done in 1986, one year before his passing.

On December 22nd, 1954, a large crowd of more than 15,000 gathered at the Kuramae Kokugikan in Tokyo in the cold weather! (quoted in text). Rikidozan, the hero who brought pro wrestling boom to Japan, and Kimura who reigned over the throne of the Japanese judo world at that time. Friends who once formed a tag team to drive out the strong Sharp brothers were facing a duel match. Kimura, who is the top of the judo world, does not want to end up as a foil for Rikidozan. It ends with Kimura's miserable appearance. Suddenly, a loud voice from the audience echoed in the hall, asking Rikidozan for a match. It was the young Masutatsu Oyama himself. Oyama, who was Kimura's junior at Takuma University, could not stand the appearance of his senior who suffered a crushing defeat, and raised his voice to Rikidozan. On the spot, Ikki Kajiwara, still a high school student, was stunned by the sight of the three great monsters of martial arts. From here, the history of Japanese martial arts began, and the graphic novel life of writer Ikki Kajiwara also started. How did Ikki Kajiwara become a one-of-a-kind graphic novelist? The culmination of Kajiwara's comics, which is the posthumous work of the giant star Ikki Kajiwara and is also his autobiography. Many martial artists and celebrities appear in the story with their real names, a shocking non-fiction entertainment work.

Professional wrestling reached its golden age in the 1960s and 1970s. Behind the many famous matches were the life dramas of legendary wrestlers. Every Friday at 8:00 p.m., foreigners such as Doryfunk Jr., Mil Mascaras, Abdullah the Butcher, Tiger Jeet Singh, and Japan, represented by Giant Baba and Antonio Inoki, glued us in front of the CRT. Ikki Kajiwara brilliantly depicts the secret story hidden in the spectacular battle of the forces. The day after watching the heated live broadcast of professional wrestling, the wrestler himself appeared under his real name, and the fans eagerly awaited this work, which depicted his worries, anger, and tears. Experience that excitement again.

Matt's Lion King - Antonio Inoki Story -
Martial Arts
,
Sports
A fantastic semi-documentary comic about Antonio Inoki's roots with Ikki Kajiwara, Hisao Maki, and Shunji Obata!! Synopsis: February 7, 1976, Nippon Budokan. In a match that was billed as the "world's best martial arts match," Antonio Inoki defeated judo open weight gold medalist Williem Ruska with three consecutive backdrop shots! He kept it close to his heart and planned his next fight against world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali. A young boy, Hiroji Inoki, was determined by his grandfather to immigrate his family to Brazil in search of a new world. Despite facing the death of his grandfather on the way, he manages to arrive in Brazil, which is nothing more than a new world in name, and turns out to be a hellish farm ruled by fear and violence... The Inoki family lives a positive life despite being forced into a life of slavery, and the evil hand of a cruel farm owner approaches! Commentary Antonio Inoki is a symbol of the Japanese professional wrestling world and the "burning fighting spirit" who laid the foundation for mixed martial arts. There is a phantom work that takes its roots and turns it into a graphic novel. Yes, it's the "Matt's Lion King" you're holding in your hands right now. The work was announced in May 1976. It was a time when the public's expectations for Inoki were high, as he was about to compete against Muhammad Ali to determine the world's best martial arts title (although it ended up being harshly criticized as the "Mediocre Fight of the Century"). It was in this favorable mood that this work began serialization in Weekly Shonen King magazine. The story focuses on his success in Japanese professional wrestling since his days as a Brazilian immigrant, and many star wrestlers of yesteryear who made their names in the early days of professional wrestling, such as Rikidozan, Toyoto, Giant Baba, and Kintaro Oki, also appear. However, the highlight is that the original story and composition were written by brothers Kajiwara Ikki and Maki Hisao, who were closely connected to the professional wrestling and martial arts worlds of the time. In an episode in which Inoki's family immigrated to Brazil when he was a boy, an evil farm owner unleashes a group of menacing assassins called the Black Power Killer Trio, and the brothers fight against it, and Rikidozan watches over Inoki's growth as kindly as a Buddha. This semi-documentary comic is sprinkled with Kajiwara and Maki's tastes that fuse fact and fantasy. In recent years, masterpieces such as \`\`Antonio Inoki's Autobiography'' (Shinchosha) and "Antonio Inoki in 1976'' (Bungei Shunju) have been published and become a hot topic, but let's enjoy the roots of Antonio Inoki, which are a little different from those works. I want it.

Removing friendship from life is like removing the sun from the world. \--Cicero (AC106-AC43) What is friendship? The king of gekiga, Ikki Kajiwara, has finally reprinted the phantom youth epic that takes on the theme of friendship head-on!! \[Explanation] A catalyst for the slumping "Shonen Gaho" "Friendship Mountains'', which began serialization in 1969, is a passionate friendship epic with the original story written by the well-known master Ikki Kajiwara, and the up-and-coming Hidemi Fukuhara selected as the illustrator. The story, which has a consistent theme of "What is friendship?'', develops while thoroughly denying the self-centeredness and rationalism that were prevalent in society at the time. It's a work full of Ikki-ism... no, it's full-on! Also, one of the highlights is that the words of historical figures are quoted throughout the work. I would like many manga fans to experience this "bible of friendship'' that quietly but surely shined in the history of manga. \[Synopsis] Shinpei Ryoma, a hot-blooded man who transferred from Kochi to a junior high school in Tokyo, dreams of joining hands with big-hearted men and building wonderful friendships like the series of mountains. Ryoma acts without compromising his beliefs. As if to ridicule him, the boss, Kurokoma, and the rich and talented Katsura plot various sabotages...Ryoma overcomes difficulties and builds a mountain of true friendship in the metropolis of Tokyo, where rationalism and home ownership are prevalent. Can you give it to me!?

(from amazon.jp): "Please make me your disciple!" Tai Daito, a boy who has won all the national titles with his exceptional athletic talent, joins Rikidozan as his apprentice to prove that he can defeat even a big man with his techniques. With the encouragement of his younger brother Goro, a young girl named Ruriko who takes care of orphans, and Rikidozan, Tai makes a successful debut. However, in order to become a top-class wrestler, he develops a special move called "Knockout Q." In front of him, strong opponents such as Chief Shinigami, Mr. 50 Megaton, Smiley Akatsuki, a practical judo master, and other villainous wrestlers, challenge Tai, Rikidozan and the rest of the Japanese wrestling world. Will Tai be able to defeat his opponents in the world of Japanese wrestling with "Knockout Q"? It is the debut work of manga writer Ikki Kajiwara, and was serialized in Kodansha's "Weekly Shonen Magazine" in 1962. With art by Tatsuo Yoshida, the duo would later team up once more for "Harris Mudan". "Champion Futo" features real-life characters, including Rikidozan, the king of professional wrestling, who was a national hero at the time, as major characters, and uses scientific evidence for the special moves in "Champion Futo". This technique can be seen in Kajiwara's later works as well, and "Champion Futo" can be regarded as a model for Kajiwara's works. After this work, Ikki Kajiwara went on to become a popular writer, writing many masterpieces such as "Tommorow's Joe", "Star of the Giants", and "Karate Master". Also adapted into a very popular J-Drama, link to the series box set on Amazon here.

Kenji Kazemaki, aka The Hurricane Kid, is a masked wrestler in the American pro-wrestling scene. He was a Japanese judo prodigy, but had to give up judo to help pay for the trial of his father, who was accused of a crime he did not commit. He was recruited to become the first Japanese member of the elite FBI team, and his father's name was cleared with the help of the FBI. After completing his rigorous training, Kenji received his first order: return to Japan to defend it against a gang infiltrating the country.
